Activity Calendar 2012

  • Friday, March 16 - Composting Workshop at the Las Marias Geriatric Center from 8:30am onwards.
  • Friday 23 to Sunday, March 25 - Festival of the Sweet Orange in the plaza of Las Marias.
  • Saturday, April 14 - Vegetative Propagation Workshop, Tissue Management and Pruning Citrus at Tres Amigos Farm, Bo. High Sano, Las Marias, from 9:00 am onwards. This workshop is in collaboration with the Agricultural Extension Agronomist Jiménez of Las Marias. Open to public. Contact us for participation.
  • Saturday, April 28 - Fundraising activity to raise money for tax exemption status of Plenitud. In this activity we will have live music, presentations on our efforts, documentaries and other activities related to sustainability. Cost $35.00 per couple (the location will be soon be announced here).
  • Saturday, May 5 - Vegetarian Cooking, Introductory Workshop in Mayagüez or Las Marias (the location will be soon be announced here).

Plenitud Eco-Educational Initiatives is a non-profit organization that supports individuals and communities in their sustainable development by providing training, demonstrations and services in organic farming, bio-construction, and other permaculture practices.

Owen C. Ingley- Anthropologist, Eco-Farmer and Bioconstructor

Owen graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in Anthropology and History. He has extensive experience working with non-governmental organizations in Guatemala. Over the past five years he has worked on organic farms in the United States and Puerto Rico. In 2008, he completed an internship withThe California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture's (Cal Earth) green building, the "Econest." He continued his studies at Cal Earth, where he expanded his knowledge of bio-construction and design.Owen directs our organic gardening, agroforestry and bio-building programs and contributes to the development of our educational workshops.

Alexandra De Leon - Agronomist and Eco-Farmer

Alexandra studied organic agriculture, agronomy, and soil and crop sciences at the Department of Environmental Agriculture at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (UPR-RUM). Over the past five years, she has been a member of several environmental associations at the university, and she continues to contribute by instructing workshops in organic farming and urban gardening.

Pamela Paoli Garrido - Adviser for Organic Agriculture

Pamela is a horticulturist and eco-farmer. She earned her degree in agronomy from UPR Mayagüez. Over the past five years she has been devoted to organic agriculture, working with several farmers in Puerto Rico. She has assisted with maintaining their farms and selling their products at organic markets. Her most recent contribution has been participating in practical organic farming and urban gardening for local communities with limited resources.

Paula Paoli Garrido - Anthropologist, Educator and Eco-Farmer

Paula graduated from the University of Florida as a Fullbright Scholar for her work with indigenous communities in Honduras. She has worked as an ecological anthropologist for several governmental and community organizations in the United States and across Latin America. Most of her experience was dedicated to exposing communities to sustainable development and agricultural practices. She also has experience instructing therapeutic arts such as yoga, dance and meditation, as well as being an elementary and secondary school teacher in Florida. 

Paula manages the research and organic farming practices along with volunteers and interns. She contributes to the development of the curriculum for the workshops and also serves as an instructor. In addition, she coordinates workshops, work parties and other events provided by Plenitud and other organizations it is involved with.

Anita Mattos - Instructor and Compost Eco-Farmer

Anita loves planting in our community. She shares her knowledge by providing workshops at local schools and to rehabilitation patients, including those recently released from incarceration, at-risk youth, and anyone wanting a garden of their own. She formerly served as the co-coordinator of our community garden. Other projects have included summer activities for children and workshops at schools, including the Food from Seed to Plate pilot project. She has been involved for over a year with the Roosevelt Mercadito of Mother Earth Organic Cooperative and also gives workshops on composting with the agro-ecological project, Sembrarte. Anita currently teaches children agro-ecology in Dorado at TASIS.


Marisel Cardona - Chemist and Artisan

Marisel holds a BA in chemistry and has also studied herbs, aromatherapy, reiki, feng-shui, and reflexology. She has an immense passion for essential oils, and prepares her own for use in various products. Her creations include soaps, massage oils for aches, pains and  respiratory conditions, skin treatments, lotions, insect repellent and cosmetics. She graciously offers these products to volunteers through her company, Marisel Herbal. Marisel contributes to our workshops and educational programs with her knowledge and experience with medicinal plants from our gardens.

Norman Ramos - Attorney and Eco-Farmer

Norman graduated from the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Law school. Over the past three years he has worked on organic farms in Puerto Rico and has been an avid permaculture student. Norman contributes to the development of our educational workshops and is part of our Board of Directors.

Cristina López - Geologist and Eco-Farmer

Cristina holds a BS in geology from the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (UPR-RUM). Over the past five years, she has been a member of several environmental and community associations at the university. She has an immense passion for organic farming and vegetarian cooking. Cristina contributes knowledge in soils and soil erosion and manages the web portals of Plenitud.

Alborada Mission Foundation
is a non-profit organization that helps combine efforts for the spiritual, social, economic and ecological development by raising awareness of individuals. Alborada Mission hosted Plenitud in its first years of operation, giving us the opportunity to establish facilities and our organic plantations. Permaculture Institute of Puerto Rico is a community based organization and its nature is economic, social and cultural development of individuals and communities for sustainability in a protected environment and in harmony with each other.
